Message from the South

Brethren,

The officers of the lodge have been diligently working to interview the candidates for membership into Mercer Lodge No.50.  At this time we have thirty five candidates for initiation and membership to the craft and the petitions are still being received.  I being a Mason raised in the traditional manner initially had reservations about the one day class, as for me I would not give up being raised in a traditional manner and questioned “why” as many of you may ask yourself or each other.

My intent; in this message is to assure you that all the candidates have been thoroughly investigated and are favorably vouched for.  As all candidates have been and will continue to be in the future.  I personally interviewed and met with five of the candidates and personally spoke with other petitioners.  As a result I can say to you that these men are joining the fraternity for the right reasons and all have charitable intentions.  In addition it has become apparent to the interviewers that many of the candidates have a Masonic history in their own family and are very close to masons that are both active and inactive in our lodge.  I along with the other investigation comities found that the one day class has brought forth a spark in the men, that they have always wanted to join but for one reason or another were unable to.  I myself am now excited, seeing quality in these candidates along with the want to join and be active in the fraternity.

The right men have been investigated and now the lodge calls on you as Master Masons.  To come and mentor these men as they go through their degrees.  Think back to your personal mentor who guided you in receiving your degrees, or practice your obligations.  We all have at least one person who comes to mink.  These are our candidates; they are deserving and entitled to the same experience as you and I were.  It’s one day, come out and stand beside a candidate and be remembered forever as a mentor to a newly raised Master Mason.

Respectfully Submitted:

David Sopronyi
